Welcome to my Home Page. My name is Michael Foster. I
am a Collector of Cigarette Packets/Packs. I have been collecting since 1995,
the collection is mainly made up of British packets/packs from 1902 to the 1960`s. I can always remember the first
cigarette packet I acquired, this came into
my possession when I ran a small collectors shop in Hastings, East Sussex,
England. It was brought in by a gentleman with a few other items he wished
to sell. At that time I had no idea that this cigarette packet/pack was collectable,
but as I wanted the other items I bought the lot. The cigarette packet then went
home with me and I decided to do some research to find out more about
cigarette packets and if I could locate books on the subject. After some
weeks searching many books I came across some pictures of packets, but of
course, not the one I had.
I then found an address and telephone number of a
club that specialized in collecting Cigarette Packets/Packs and other Tobacco
related Items, this was The Cigarette Packet
Collectors Club of Great Britain. I rang their secretary who was very
helpful in telling me that the packet I had acquired dated from around
1902 and was quite scarce an item in very good condition. I then decided
to join the club, so I could get more information about the hobby. Once a
member, I then got the bug, and the rest is history. I have now made many
new friends with the same interests, and my collection is growing month by
month.
Since those early days my collection has changed, I
still collect Cigarette Packets/Packs that are empty, either the hull or the hull &
slide, but now I prefer to collect what we call Live Cigarette
Packets/Packs, this is the packet
with its original contents complete, not as easy but still very enjoyable.
I also Specialize in collecting the Cigarette Packets, Tobacco Tins, Cigarette Cards,
Tobacco Advertising, and
any other Cigarette and Tobacco related Items associated with the Company of R.J.Lea
Tobacco and Cigarette manufacturers of Manchester &
Stockport England
